Requirements:
The Government of Taiwan, endeavoring to update their healthcare identification process,
required a program to migrate from a traditional paper based card to a plastic card with a smart
chip. Although the card is primarily a healthcare card, it will also be used as a valid identification document.
Solution:
• Data is collected from an already established base of enrollment and image capture centers.
• Data is transferred to a centralized database.
• Cards are produced on the Datacard® 9000 Series card issuance system from a centralized site.
• The 9000 Series configuration includes a smart card module,
which allows personalization
of the smart chip.
• The personalized chip card can be used online to pay medical premiums and update records every time the card is used.

The Government of Taiwan decided to launch a healthcare smart card to replace several paper documents and cards used for a range of healthcare programs. The new card will be issued to a population base of over 22 million citizens as well as to foreigners holding a valid work permit.
The new smart card will help to reduce fraud, streamline the billing process and improve customer service. In addition, the data on the smart chip can be updated every time the citizen visits a doctor or clinic and citizens can pay medical premiums through the Internet while updating the data on their card.
The composite card includes a smart chip, color photo, secure microtext printing, Optical
Variable Ink (OVI) printing as well as Ultra Violet printing. The card will have an estimated life of 5 to 7 years.
The addition of the color photo allows the card to be used as a valid identification document.

Datacard in conjunction with our distributor, Foongtone, received an order for several 9000 Series systems to fulfill the production requirements.
The configuration included a base module, smart card Gen2E module with seven programming stations, an advanced high speed 300 dpi color module, topcoat and 300 dpi UltraGrafix® modules.
